In today’s climate of HMO’s, managed care, and other health care managers many patients feel rushed at a doctor’s appointment (receiving 10 to 15 minutes for a visit and at most, 45 minutes for an entire evaluation.) Insurance companies frequently attempt to dictate how long an evaluation should be. 20 years in private practice Dr. Marie Surpris’ career accomplishments include Medical Director of East End TMS, a decade psychiatric consultant to group homes, consultant psychiatrist to Adelphi University counseling center, school evaluations for school districts on Long Island, experience in both inpatient units and psychiatric emergency rooms.
As a team leader with a comprehensive approach Dr. Marie Surpris will work with families, clinicians, teachers and specialty physicians whenever necessary to provide continuous care and crisis intervention to her patients. She is knowledgeable about a multitude of treatment options : psychopharmacology and alternative cutting edge FDA approved treatments available such as TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation), ketamine treatments (Spravato) and treatment for children, adolescents and adults.

After double majoring in biology and psychology at Arizona State University and graduating with summa cum laude honors, Kate went on to receive her Master of Medical Science degree in physician assistant studies at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. During her academic journey, she placed a special emphasis on molecular neurobiology and genetics in the context of psychiatric disorders. Kate enjoys working with her patients to create individualized treatment regimens for their unique needs, situations, and goals. Kate employs a holistic approach, and is well-versed in drug-gene testing and alternative treatment modalities such as transcranial magnetic stimulation and neurofeedback. Prescribing the most effective treatment protocols, including medication, lifestyle adjustment, social and educational support, behavior modification, and psychotherapy, is her lifelong commitment and she will always endeavor to go the extra mile in patient education, safety, trust, and wellbeing.
